Marital Mediation

A better way to resolve marital conflict and keep your marriage intact.

Popular culture would have us believe that marital conflict can be resolved through divorce.

However, with first marriage divorce rates hovering close to 50% and second marriage divorce rates pushing upwards of 65% and third marriage divorce rates approaching 75%, it would seem that the process of divorce does little to resolve conflict. In actuality the process of divorce merely moves unresolved conflict to a new relationship.

Divorce does little to truly resolve the underlying problems which led to the conflict in the first place.

There has to be a better way.

The paradox of conflict is that conflict is a natural and normal part of any relationship. People are simply geared to differences of opinions.

We often see the world through difference lenses and as a result, we have a wide variety of ways we approach and manage life and life circumstances.

In other words, our ways of doing and being conflict (differ) with the someone else’s way of doing and being. The result is a feeling of being at odds with one another or conflicted.

Conflict, however, does not mean that the relationship is bad or flawed or irrespirable. It just means we have a difference of opinion or imagine different ways of being or doing.

It is not unusual for conflicted couples to need the help of an impartial third party to help them fully consider and work through the problems that lead up to and contributed to the conflict.

At Chrysalis Connections, our goal is to resolve conflict through the process of marital mediation as opposed to avoiding or “moving” the conflict through the process of divorce.

Marital mediation is a type of conflict resolution in which we attempt to sort through these differences that have come between the couple and seek mutually acceptable resolution and agreement.

Thus marital mediation is a process facilitated by a nonbiased, neutral party, designed to help conflicted couples identify and work through issues related to conflict and find agreement. This process promotes stability, growth, and long-term emotional and spiritual benefits for the couple and their children.
